Have you tried downloading a simple party game on your phone? You just want to play a quick round of Spyfall or Heads Up with friends at a bar, and instead you get hit with a 200MB download, a mandatory account sign-up, a "free trial" popup for a $4.99/week subscription, and unskippable video ads between every single round. It completely kills the vibe. Pocket Circle by developer Luca Sforza is the exact antidote to that mess. It's a free, open-source web app packing four pass-and-play party games that run on a single phone right in your browser.
How It Works
Nobody needs to install anything, and you don't need everyone in the room to join a lobby. You just open the link on one phone, type in your friends' names (you can even snap quick profile photos), pick a game, and pass the phone around the circle.
Right now, it includes four games for 2 to 20 players:
- Impostor: Everyone gets the same secret word except the impostors, who have to bluff their way through the conversation without getting voted out.
- Bomb: You get a category and have to shout out a valid answer before passing the phone while a hidden timer ticks down to an explosion.
- Who Am I?: You can see everyone else’s secret identity on the screen except your own. Ask yes/no questions to figure out who you are.
- Twit: Everyone estimates a number for a trivia prompt, and then you bet on whose answer is going to be the furthest off.

Why It's Great
- Zero bloat, zero greed: There are no ads, no tracking scripts, no accounts, and no subscriptions. It's hosted straight on GitHub Pages and built purely for the love of having fun with friends.
- Completely local & offline-ready: All player profiles, photos, scores, and active games stay saved locally in your browser. Once you load the page the first time, it caches itself as a PWA (Progressive Web App), meaning you can add it to your home screen and play it on a camping trip or in a basement bar with zero cell reception.
- One device for the whole room: Instead of eight people staring down at their own separate screens all night, passing one phone around keeps everyone actually talking and looking at each other.
The Catch
- Pass-the-phone trust: Because everything happens on a single device, you have to rely on your friends not to accidentally tap the back button, drop your phone in a pint of beer, or peek at the screen during a handoff.
- Language options: Currently, the games and word banks are available in English and Italian. If your friend group wants prompts in another language, you'll have to translate on the fly (or fork the code on GitHub and add your own).
- Browser storage limits: Since all your player profiles and scores live in your browser's local storage, clearing your browser data will wipe your group's scoreboard.
The Verdict
Pocket Circle is a reminder of how good the open web can be when developers build simple tools without trying to monetize every click. Bookmark this link on your phone right now - the next time you're waiting for food at a restaurant or hanging out with friends, you'll have four solid party games ready to go in two seconds flat.
